Wildfire Skill Learning Books

Hotshots are the backbone of US wildfire management and an excellent learning aid in fireline leadership is the Supe’s Handbook Leadership Lessons From America’s Hotshot Crews.

Wildfire Leadership is very different than many other styles in that in the wildfire environment we often work remotely in rapidly changing situations as part of small teams. Leadership styles often successful for us come from military special operations and classic for an education in this subject is the Leadership Secrets of the Rogue Warrior. Richard Marcinko was a personal friend of mine and I highly recommend this book to new Fireline leaders.

More Military Special Operations leadership styles can be understood by reading this highly recommended classic, Secrets of the Special Ops Leadership.

Teamwork and how to create it from the masters of this subject, the Green Berets, Conquer Anything, is a classic work I highly recommended to fire leaders where to learn more about this subject.

How are new fire line leaders made? They have to learn and the classic for how to do this is How Truly Great Leaders Unleash Greatness In Others Trust & Inspire.

Wildfire firefighting worldwide on the fireline deploy in small units to achieve their objectives and in Small Unit Tactics veteran special operations soldiers share their experience towards teaching military tactics that can be easily transferred into learning how to work together in small teams.

Much of my wildfire career has been done in and around helicopters and in this training handbook basic skills of Helicopter Rescue Techniques are discussed. This handbook is highly recommended to firefighters and rescuers whom are tasked to work around helicopters and for those interested in this subject.
